Lotus House celebrated the grand opening of the newly completed Lotus Children’s Village in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood. The new 71,280-square-foot children’s education and resource center is the first facility of its kind in Miami-Dade County and will complement the existing and adjacent Lotus Village, the largest women and children’s shelter in the nation.
With financing through Florida Community Loan Fund and the New Markets Tax Credit program, Lotus Children’s Village will provide services and programming to heal, empower, and uplift children, youth, and families – most of whom are low-income, minority individuals and among the most vulnerable in Miami-Dade. Anchored by the Lotus House Center for the Advancement of Children and Families, the Children’s Village will house 14 nonprofit organizations offering enriched educational and therapeutic support, diverse programming in science, technology, literacy and creative arts, greater access to health, legal and social services, and a wide range of community resources to an estimated 13,500 clients.
Lotus House leadership, community partners, and board members were joined by special guests Gloria Estefan, a singer, songwriter, actress, and longtime advocate for women’s causes, and Gisele Bündchen, a supermodel, bestselling author, philanthropist, and dedicated advocate for women and children in need who also serves on the Lotus House board of directors.
